South Side Community Ministries (SSCM)
is holding their annual “Feed the People” fundraising concert in partnership with the Guitar House on November 9th at 7pm at Saint Paul UCC 225 E. Gates Street. Admission to the concert is free but we’ll be passing the hat to raise donations for the SSCM food pantry. Keep checking back for the names of the performers scheduled to appear. See you there!
SCCM has had a great year this year feeding a record number of families. Unfortunately, next year will be more of a challenge.
Starting November 1, 2013, the SNAP program (food stamps) will be permanently cut for all participants. More than 47 million Americans—including 22 million children—will see reductions in monthly benefits. For a family of three, that cut will mean a $319 reduction for the remaining 11 months of the fiscal year, or getting by on $1.40 per person, per meal. For our SSCM Food Pantry and all food pantries throughout the United States, SNAP recipients will turn to us to help make up the difference. Both family and food pantry budgets will be stretched.
We hope you will be able to support the SCCM pantry providing nutritious food to the families on the Southside by attending this great event. Please mark your calendars now and we hope to see you Saturday, November 9th, 7 p.m. at St Paul UCC, 225 E. Gates Street. There will be three wonderful groups – Throat Culture, The Amazing Rakes, and Canned Goods.
