Wednesday Evening Book Study
will begin its winter book, “Healing the Heart of Democracy” by Parker J. Palmer on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 7:00 pm
. As a writer Palmer integrates decades of social activism with inner life exploration.
Quoting from the book: “For those of us who want to see democracy survive and thrive – and we are legion – the heart is where everything begins: that grounded place in each of us where we can overcome fear, rediscover that we are members of one another and embrace the conflicts that threaten democracy as openings to new life for us and for our nation.”
The 2014 paperback edition has an expanded introduction and a discussion guide. “Healing the Heart of Democracy” is available in paperback, hardback, kindle, new and used, and the Columbus Metropolitan Library (3 copies). Each person obtains their own book in the format of their choosing.
Anyone interested in discussion on this book is welcome to join Pastor Eric and others on Wednesday evenings. Usually we read and discuss one chapter per week. In addition to the introduction, the book has 8 chapters: Democracy’s Ecosystem, Confessions of an Accidental Citizen, The Heart of Politics, The Loom of Democracy, Life in the Company of Strangers, Classrooms and Congregations, Safe Space for Deep Democracy, and The Unwritten History of the Heart. It is our intent that WEBS provides a safe and sacred place for conversation.
