Our friend and erstwhile music minister Johnny Steiner will be will perform at his college alma mater, Otterbein University. The concert is called LOVE SCENES, and will feature a program from the Great American Songbook and golden age of pop music examining different aspects of romantic love.
“Love, love, love. It’s explored in 97% of the songs on the radio, no matter what music station you tune in to! I am always struck at how much we can express through song – much of the time in a more profound way than with words alone. I chose songs for LOVE SCENES that get really specific. There are songs about dating, having a crush on someone, love-at-first-sight, and of course – the ever-popular subject of love unrequited.”
Some songs featured on the LOVE SCENES program include Frank Sinatra favorites like Fly Me To The Moon and For Once In My Life, 50s classics like Buddy Holly’s Everyday and Nat King Cole’s Walking My Baby Back Home, and beloved Broadway tunes like Some Enchanted Evening and The Surrey With The Fringe On Top.
Steiner’s concerts offer great entertainment – including a bevy of surprise guests, lots of laughs, and some fantastic music.
Backing up Steiner are Eileen Huston on piano, Paul Baker on bass, and drummer David K. Johnston.
LOVE SCENES will be held in Riley Auditorium inside Battelle Fine Arts Center at Otterbein University on Saturday, August 4 at 7:30pm and Sunday, August 5 at 2:30pm. Admission is $15 at the door. General seating. The theater is handicap-accessible.
